Keep the Fires Burning

As I write this blog, I am reaching the end of writing a blog each week that is related to our devotional book, “From You and Me to We”. It is a 52-week devotional book for married couples. We wrote the book with the idea that we wanted to offer a tool that helps couples have a meaningful way to connect each week with the devotional.
I hope you have gotten the book, or maybe you have read the blogs each week that either expanded on the chapter topic or examined it in a different way. I have loved writing and hope that maybe in some small way it has been of benefit to you and your spouse.
I have been married for a long time now……….it really doesn’t seem that way, but the reality is, that it has been a long journey filled with more unexpected things than I could have ever imagined. I certainly would not say it has been easy. It has actually been one of the harder things in this life, but the truth is anything worth its salt is going to be a challenge. Your marriage is the most important relationship you humanly have; at times it will seem like the hardest relationship you have.

I wish that I had not spent so many years thinking that my marriage was all about me (if I am being honest) and trying to manipulate my husband into being what I wanted him to be (not accepting who he was.). I married him and then tried to change it (crazy right 😣). I wasted precious time, not loving well. Part of the reason we started No Regretz Ministries is because we did have regrets about how we had done things for so many years. We wanted to share and help other couples learn from our mistakes, we wanted them to be encouraged that God can do amazing things in and through their marriage. We want couples to have hope that they can have a marriage that is beyond what they have imagined. We are living proof.
I also know that you can’t ever say we have arrived, the destination point is here. No, it’s a journey all the way to the end. We never stop learning how to love better, and how to delight in each other in new and deeper ways. The more I love and minister to my husband, the more I want to love and minister to my husband. Loving begets more loving, and intentionally caring for my spouse is like a feed-back loop that continues to be nourished with each and every act of love and care. Living like this is truly delightful!
So, don’t let the fire burn out, don’t let the ashes build up so much that they smother the fire. Clean out the ashes (deal with things as they happen, forgive, reconcile and move on). Tend the fire, keep it burning so you can burn warm and bright all the way to the end!
I hope you might consider checking out our website, NoRegretz.org and following our weekly podcast on your favorite media platform. We would love to hear from you and if we can ever be of help, please reach out to us. I pray for you to experience marriage the way God designed it.
